Printing Guide

Different printer brands/models all operate slightly differently. The following information is based off my own home printer, and therefore may have to be adapted for yours. Please visit the freebies page if you'd like to do some test prints before making a purchase :)

Downloading & saving your insert

Once you have made your purchase, you will receive an email containing a link to a .zip file to download your files (see below for further instructions on how to extract .zip files.)

Click the link to download, and a window will open for you to choose a destination folder. Select where you want to save the file - make sure it's somewhere you will remember as you will need to navigate back to it when it's time to print.

Click "Save" to download.

Extracting .zip files

Using Windows

1. Locate the ZIP file after download
2. Right-click, and select "Extract All..."
3. Select the folder you want to save your files to
4. Click "Extract"

Using a Mac

1. Locate the ZIP file after download
2. Move it to where you want to save it
3. Double click and the file will automatically be extracted in the same location

What program should I use?

Adobe Acrobat Reader is the most efficient and reliable program to print inserts from. You can download it here for free :)

'True' vs 'Spread' - what's the difference?

Our planner inserts come in two different formats - 'True' and 'Spread'

Spread is designed to be printed out on A4/Letter size paper, and trimmed down to size afterwards. These include 2 inserts per sheet of paper, except for pocket/pocket plus, which have 4.

True is designed for pre-cut paper. For example, if you are printing an A6 size insert, you will print it directly onto an A6 sheet of paper.

Printing inserts on Letter/A4 size paper

1. Open the insert which is labelled Spread in Adobe Acrobat Reader
2. Go to Print
3. In your print dialogue box, ensure that A4/US Letter is selected for page size
4. Ensure you have either Actual Size or Custom Scale: 100% selected
5. Set your Page Orientation to Auto. Your insert should look in the centre of the page in the print preview box.
6. If printing Duplex, select Flip on Short Edge, except for Pocket & Pocket Plus - they will need to be Flip on Long Edge.
7. If not printing duplex, print the first page, and then manually flip the paper to print the second page. If there are multiple pages to the insert, I print all the odd pages first, flip them, and then print all the even pages. Take note of how the pages print, so you can ensure you reinsert the paper the correct way!

Printing inserts on pre-cut paper

1. Open the insert which is labelled True in Adobe Acrobat Reader
2. Go to Print
3. In your printer settings, you will likely need to manually set the page size if it's not one you've printed before. You can normally find this through Properties > Paper Size > User Defined...
4. Ensure you have either Actual Size or Custom Scale: 100% selected
5. Set your Page Orientation to Auto. Your insert should look in the centre of the page in the print preview box
6. Duplex is not usually supported for custom size inserts, so you will have to flip them manually. Print the first page, and then flip the paper to print the second page. If there are multiple pages to the insert, I print all the odd pages first, flip them, and then print all the even pages. Take note of how the pages print, so you can ensure you reinsert the paper the correct way!

Printable sticky notes

  1. Open 'StickyNoteTemplate' in Adobe Acrobat and print it on A4/Letter size paper
  2. Pop one sticky note into each little square, with the sticky edge at the top
  3. To avoid paper jams, either secure the on-sticky side with removeable tape, or load the paper so that the sticky edge enters the printer first
  4. Print your chosen design on top, and it should align perfectly on top of your sticky notes ♡

Troubleshooting

My download is printing at the wrong size

1. Ensure you have downloaded/opened the correct size.
2. Check you have Actual Size or Custom Scale: 100% selected from your print menu.

The front and back insert are not aligned

1. Double check all print settings. If they are correct, your insert should be centred on the page in the print preview window
2. Check the paper feed tray to ensure the paper is loaded correctly and not shifting during printing
3. Run a printer alignment or calibration test (usually found in your printer's settings or maintenance menu.)

One side is printing upside down

If printing duplex, ensure that you have Flip on Short Edge selected for landscape inserts, and Flip on Long Edge for portrait-orientated inserts.

If manually flipping the paper, reinsert them the opposite way.

I don't have a home printer

If you don't have your own printer, you may be able to print them at your local library, print shop, place of work/school or other businesses with a printing facility.
